About the Promoted Team Members
James Lee joined HVPG in 2020 and has since overseen the renovation of ~30 complexes across 10 states, totaling over ~$232M in construction costs. In his new role as Head of Design & Construction, James will lead the execution of all renovation and construction management functions across HVPG’s holdings.
A passionate advocate for community impact through the built environment, James brings more than 22 years of experience in affordable, commercial, and institutional construction. He previously served in leadership roles at Avalon Bay Communities, HELP USA, and Mulholland Group, and earlier in his career helped manage over $600 million in affordable housing investments at New York State Homes and Community Renewal. James holds a B.S. in construction management from John Brown University.
Drew McKessey, promoted to Controller of Development Accounting, has been a key member of HVPG’s finance team since 2021. In his previous role as Assistant Controller, he oversaw cash management, project cost reporting, and general accounting functions across HVPG’s portfolio. In his new role, Drew will lead all development and stabilized property accounting functions, with a particular focus on the intricacies of the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program and its development milestones.
With more than 25 years of experience across real estate development, construction, and property management, Drew has held leadership positions at DDG Partners, GFI Capital Resources Group, and a legacy affordable housing property management firm. He is an active member of both the Construction Financial Managers Association and the National Association of Black Accountants, and holds a B.S. in finance from Florida State University.
Both James and Drew are known for their integrity, technical excellence, and people-first leadership—consistently championing HVPG’s mission and supporting the professional growth of their teams.
